Designing and Analyzing Assessments showed that using different assessments allows teachers to see if their approach on instruction is working. It also allows teachers to “check for understanding” which gives them snapshots of student progress, critical thinking, and tenacity.

Elements include Congruence with Instructional Outcomes, Criteria and Standards, Planning Formative Assessments, and Analysis and Application. Teachers having practice tests after learning the end of material in class can let them see how students are doing with the material learn and if they must adjust their teaching methods.
