342 Field Experience

Welcome to my virtual portfolio for my 342 Field Experience! This page highlights the key components of my fieldwork and showcases my growth as a pre-service teacher. It includes a summary poster featuring the activities I planned and implemented with my student, as well as an overview of my responsibilities in the classroom. You will also find my “Why Education” assignment, my kindergarten winter-themed unit plan, and a description of my dream classroom accompanied by images of my design choices. Together, these elements reflect my developing professional identity and demonstrate my commitment to creating meaningful, engaging, and supportive learning experiences for young students.

During my field experiences, I have observed a variety of classroom setups that accommodate students’ diverse learning needs. I have seen thoughtful classroom designs that inspired me and others that helped me understand what I would do differently in my own teaching practice. My classroom design is intentionally structured to promote collaboration and engagement. Students are seated in groups that encourage communication and teamwork, and they can gather on the carpet at the front of the room during whole-group lessons.

I also created a cozy reading corner where students can relax with a book during free time, either on the carpet or in one of the bean bag chairs. The bookshelf in this area will showcase a rotating selection of books organized by themes such as holidays, diversity, fiction, and biographies to help students develop as well-rounded readers.

At the front of the classroom, I included two whiteboards for modeling handwriting, writing sentences, or working through math problems, as well as a SMART Board for displaying PowerPoint presentations and interactive lessons. To ensure the space stays organized and functional, I incorporated ample storage for manipulatives, lesson materials, art supplies, and games for indoor recess. Finally, my design includes two teacher desks—one for my personal workspace and a back table designated for small-group instruction and one-on-one support.
