Maintaining Purposeful Environments showed that productive collaboration is beneficial for students to purposefully cooperate to support one another’s success. Teachers should have a routine or set of procedures for the students to support students’ assumption of responsibility and develop positive mindsets and skills. 

 

Elements include Productive Collaboration, Student Autonomy and Responsibility, Equitable Access to Resources and Supports, and Non-Instructional Tasks. In an elementary school, students should be expected to walk in the classroom, unpack their stuff and put it in their cubby, and get out classroom materials such as paper, pencil, notebook, homework, or classroom folder to get ready for class.
